Double-digit GDP growth by 2025: Mannan

Planning Minister Md Abdul Mannan said the next development plan of Bangladesh will be taken mainly to reach the double digit economic growth by 2025, and the highest level of effective measures to be undertaken to narrow down the income disparity. "We have already laid due emphasis on quality education in rebuilding the knowledge based economy and sustainable development. Besides, we have also laid special importance on female education so that gender parity can be attained in primary and higher levels of education ", the Minister added.

He was addressing the country statement session of the ongoing Highest Level Political Forum (HLPF) of the United Nations (UN) at UN headquarters on Wednesday. Highlighting the effort of SDG implementation under the farsighted leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Mannan said Bangladesh is undertaking national development plan involving all society for implementation so that each citizen can take part in development activities and enjoy the fruit of development.

"As per the account of IMF and World Bank, Bangladesh has been the country of most rapid economic growth in the year 2019, despite global downward growth Bangladesh continued its growth of more than 7 percent", Planning Minister added. Highlighting the vision 2021 and vision 2041 in the forum, the Minister pointed and said, “It will require a huge fund to implement the SDG by 2030. So, international development partners and related international organisations will have to come forward to provide economic and technical assistance in this regard.”

Minister also said the government is implementing 'Bangladesh Social Security Strategy' to ensure higher level of social safety for its citizens. He further mentioned that the remittance sent by the Bangladeshi expatriates is strengthening the economic foundation of Bangladesh, and in the last fiscal year Bangladesh earned foreign currency worth $ 16.42 billion.

The Minister also informed the forum that the government has taken necessary steps to create a congenial environment to attract foreign direct investment (FDI. And with this end in view, the government has taken up widespread practical moves like establishing 100 special economic zones, expansion of information technology and youth oriented development.
