Dhaka Metropolitan Police have initiated the process to terminate its 26 members who have failed drug test.
"We have conducted dope test on suspected police personnel with 26 members found to be positive and process to dismiss them has begun,” DMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam said on Saturday.
He made the remarks while inaugurating the office of the newly formed Mirpur Traffic Division.
Shafiqul said they believe this action will give a clear message to the rest of the force that none will be spared for the involvement with drugs. Police personnel who were involved in drugs or collaborating with drug dealers are being arrested. Cops involving in drugs face action similar to that of punishment drug traders have, he added.
DMP’s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit chief Monirul Islam, Additional Commissioners Mir Rezaul Alam and AKM Hafiz Akter, among others, were present on the occasion.
