Members of Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in several anti-drug raids arrested at least 52 people on charges of selling and consuming drugs during the 24-hours drives in the city till 6:00am on Friday.
The DB iwith the support local police carried out the drives simultaneously at different parts of the city from 6:00 am of May 25 to 6:00 am on Friday, according to a DMP release issued on Friday.
In those separate anti-drug raids, police seized huge drugs from their possession.
During the anti-drug raids, police seized a total of 1,343 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets, 30 grams and 295 purias (small packets) of heroin, 65.170 kilograms of cannabis (ganja) and 20 drug injections from their possession, the DMP press release added.
Police filed 34 separate cases against the arrestees in these connections with respective police stations under the Narcotics Control Act.
The arrestees will be produced before the court.
DMP said that the drives against drugs will continue. Police want to make a drug-free society for a crime-free Bangladesh.
