Discussion held at DU marking Mujib centenary

On the occasion of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's birth centenary, the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies of Dhaka University organised a discussion on Friday (November 26).

On the occasion, a plaque at the library, lecture hall and meeting room of the newly decorated and modernized departmental seminar entitled ‘Bangladesh's future Buddhist society in the spirit of Mujib’s centenary’ was also unveiled.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the seminar library, lecture hall and meeting room as the chief guest. Later, the Vice-Chancellor addressed the discussion too as the chief guest.

Dean of the Faculty of Arts of Dhaka University Professor Dr Abu Md Delwar Hossain presided over the ceremony, Dhaka University Teachers Association President Professor Dr Md Rahmat Ullah, Proctor Professor Dr AKM Golam Rabbani, Joint Secretary General of Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad, Professor Dr. Uttam Kumar Barua spoke as special guests at the time. 

Welcoming remarks were made by the Chairman of the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, Professor Dr Sumon Kanti Barua while, Professor Dr Dilip Kumar Barua thanked everyone.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman said that in order to achieve the sustainable development goals, we have to ensure development and quality education in all fields. 

In this case, there is no alternative to mutual partnership and cooperation. The Vice-Chancellor appealed to the students of the department to play a role in the national development by upholding the great spirit of Buddhist philosophy and achieving excellence, he added.

Dhaka University Faculty of Biology Dean Professor Dr Mihir Lal Saha, departmental teachers-students and alumni were present at the discussion.
