Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen on Wednesday requested India to open about 2km of ‘Independence Road’ on the Indo-Bangladesh border at Mujibnagar.

He made the request when the outgoing Indian High Commissioner Riva Ganguly Das paid a farewell call on Dr Momen at the state guest house Padma.

Dr Momen said if the Independence Road is opened, Indian tourists will be able to easily visit the historic Mujibnagar.

At the same time, he emphasised on the timely completion of various projects under the Indian 'Line of Credit'.

The Foreign Minister also observed that the land port, which was closed due to the pandemic, can be reopened to make it easier for the citizens to travel by road.

He also thanked his Indian counterpart S. Jaishankar for successfully completing the 6th Joint Consultative Commission (JCC).
