Awami League Advisory Council member Amir Hossain Amu on Saturday said Dhaka city elections were held in a free, fair and peaceful manner, reports BSS.

“BNP had raised ‘imaginary allegations’ over the city elections. But the city dwellers delightfully participated in the two city elections (elections to Dhaka South and Dhaka North City Corporations). The city polls were held in a free, fair and peaceful manner,” he said.

The senior AL leader was speaking at a post-election press conference at Awami League’s Bangabandhu Avenue Central Office in the capital. From the beginning of the city polls, BNP made many ‘imaginary allegations’ over the elections, he said, adding that the polls became free and fair as the AL leaders and activists kept patience following the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Amu said BNP leaders had made various comments on the city polls but all these comments were proved baseless. “When an election approaches, BNP starts placing allegations. But it is always found that there are no similarity between their allegations and the reality,” he added. The AL Advisory Council member expressed gratitude to the Election Commission (EC) and members of the law enforcement agencies for holding the Dhaka city elections in a free, fair and credible manner.

Awami League Advisory Council member Mozaffar Hossain Paltu, its presidium members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Dr Abdur Razzaque and Abdur Rahman, senior leaders Abul Hasnat Abdullah and Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, organising secretary Advocate Afzal Hossain, relief and social Welfare Sujit Roy Nandi, labour affairs secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, central committee members Advocate Qamrul Islam and Dr Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin, and president of Awami League Dhaka South City Unit Abu Ahmed Mannafi and its general secretary Humayun Kabir were, among others, present at the press conference.
