Devastating fire at Rajdhani Market

A devastating fire broke out in city’s Rajdhadhi Super Market on Wednesday evening. The fire originated around 5:15 pm from the second floor of the tin-shed market, and after the frantic efforts of over two dozen fire service units the fire was brought under control at around 6:45pm, said eyewitnesses.

Twenty five the Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD)units tried heart and soul to bring the fire under control, said duty officer of FSCD control room. Roads adjacent to the market were closed for vehicle movement for safety, he added. The reason of fire could not known immediately.

Huge numbers of shops in the two-storied market were gutted including cloth stores and cosmetics shops at the second floor of the market. Additional police have been deployed for avoiding any untoward situation. Sources said after the fire incident, electricity and gas supply to whole Tikatoli area were suspended. Fire services staffs prevented further spread of the fire. There are some important infrastructures including Salauddin Special Hospital and Rapid Action Battalion office located near the market.

Officials said there are some restaurants where gas cylinders might have been used. That is why gas and power connection have been disconnected. Fire services staffs have to fighting hard to control the fire as the market is a tin-shed market. There were huge numbers of small shops besides the market. It is not yet confirm whether there were any people inside the market.

Some shop owners said due to the ongoing transport strike, there was no huge gathering in the market. Many of their staffs could not come to the market due to the strike.
