A Dhaka court on Tuesday sentenced Destiny Group Managing Director (MD) Rafiqul Amin to three-year imprisonment and fined him Taka 50 lakh in a case lodged for not submitting his wealth statement to ACC.

Judge Shamim Ahammed of Dhaka 8th Special Judge Court passed the order in presence of Rafiqul, who was produced before the court marking the judgement.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on June 16, 2016, gave Rafiqul a notice to submit his wealth statement within next seven days. The accused, who was in jail in another case at the time, failed to submit the statement and instead pleaded for more time.

The ACC allowed him seven more days, but the result was the same as Rafiqul failed to submit the wealth statement. The anti-graft body on September 8, 2016, filed the case against him with capital’s Ramna Police Station.

The ACC on June 6, 2017, filed charge sheet in the case and on March 12, 2018, framed charges against Rafiqul Amin. The court today came up with the judgement after examining five witnesses on different occasions.
