‘Dairy dev project to make up shortage of milk’

‘There is no substitute of animal protein intake to develop an intelligent nation. Without being a pioneer in good health and talent, development of the country is impossible.” State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru said these as chief guest at 10th biennial conference of Bangladesh Animal Husbandry Association (BAHA) held at Shilpacharya Zailnul Abedin Auditorium of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) Saturday.

He also said that development is a continuous process. To maintain this continuity, advanced education and research are needed. A major portion of animal protein comes from the poultry sector. But another main protein source, milk production is relatively lower than the demand. As why Bangladesh government has already taken a 500 core taka development project for the development of the dairy sector. If the project is implemented, it will be possible to mitigate the shortage of milk in the country, he added. 

Acting Vice-chancellor of BAU Prof Dr Md Jasimuddin Khan was chief patron at the event. Member of Panning Commission Md Zakir Hossain Akanda, Animal Husbandry faculty dean also convener of BAU dean council Prof Dr Md Nurul Islam, Director General (DG) of Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) Dr Nathu Ram Sarker and Director General (DG) of Department of Livestock Service (DLS) Dr Abdul Jabbar Shikder   addressed as special guest. 

BAHA president and former Vice-chancellor of Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) Prof Dr Syed Sakhawat Hussain presided over the conference. 

Pro Dr Khan Md Shaiful Islam presented the keynote paper titled ‘Safety Aspects of Animal Protein Production’. On his keynote speech he said, safe food plays an important role, whether domestically produced and consumed, imported of exported. Ensuring safe food is parameter of human health and for enhancement of the quality of life.
