Arranged with the aim of promoting and expanding the theatrical productions worldwide, the weeklong theatre festival ‘Bangladesh International Theatre Festival’ ended yesterday at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital.

Ministry of Cultural Affairs, in association with BSA and International Theatre Unit, organised the festival. Supported by Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation, six troupes from Russia, China, France, India, Vietnam and Nepal and two Bangladeshi troupes brought their plays on stage during the weeklong festival.

Yesterday, on the concluding day of the festival, Nikolai Zykov Theatre from Russia staged light puppet show at the National Theatre Hall of BSA followed by the closing ceremony in the evening.

Earlier on June 20, the weeklong festival was inaugurated at the National Theatre Hall of BSA.

Alongside staging theatre productions, the festival also featured a seminar on the third day of the weeklong event.

On Monday, Nepalese troupe Mandala Theatre staged its play ‘Jhyalincha’ at the National Theatre Hall. Based on Kumar Nagarkoti’s short story, the play is the 51st drama production of the troupe. Conceptualised and directed by Dayahang Rai, ‘Jhyalinchha’ tells the story of a renowned author named Hasabira.

The 50-minute play features just two actors, Bijay Baral and Ranjana Oli. ‘Jhyalincha’ also featured live music by Anupam Sharma and choreography by Kiran Chamling, while Anup Neupane and Rohit Poudel have designed the play’s lighting and sets. The mass audiences enjoyed the festival through an online registration, which is free of cost.
