The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Railways on Tuesday recommended taking necessary steps for the construction of rail links between Chattogram and Kolkata via Dhaka, reports BSS. The committee also suggested taking realistic programmes, including bringing diversity in train tickets, to celebrate the ‘Mujib Year’ throughout the year on the occasion of birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 2020.

The parliamentary watchdog made the recommendations at its 4th meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with its Chairman ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury in the chair, said a press release. Committee members Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan, Asaduzzaman Noor, Md Shafiqul Azam Khan, HM Ibrahim, Gazi Mohammad Shahnawaz and Nadira Yasmin Joly attended the meeting.

The committee recommended setting up body scanners and luggage scanners at Dhaka and Chattogram railway stations to ensure security of the passengers and stop transporting illegal goods. It also suggested the ministry to take necessary measures to prevent accidents and make the online apps more useful for the users to collect tickets. Secretary of the Railways Ministry and other officials concerned were present at the meeting.
