Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis said on Tuesday that they are waiting for Bangladesh Cricket Boards direction to resume Dhaka Premier League (DPL).

CCDM, a wing of BCB entrusted with the responsibility to host the Dhaka- based club tournament, was supposed to sit with the club officials after Eid-ul-Azha and discuss regarding the resumption of DPL that got suspended after first-round due to corona pandemic.

However, the meeting did not take place as CCDM is waiting for BCB consent regarding this matter.

"We are waiting for BCB direction regarding the resumption of DPL," CCDM member secretary Ali Hossain told reporters on Tuesday.

"We did not hold any meeting with the clubs as we have to get the guideline from BCB regarding the DPL," he further added.

The future of the current DPL season is looking bleak as the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka is likely to have its toll on the tournament considering some of the teams will find it difficult to make their best playing XI if the national team and HP squad leaves for Sri Lanka at the end of September for their respective series against the host.

BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury indicated that DPL will resume after the tour of Sri Lanka, adding that there will be a shortage of cricketers if the national team and HP squad is away from the country in September.

Earlier, CCDM officials had hinted that they were planning to resume DPL in September-October in a controlled environment to tackle the danger of coronavirus pandemic.

Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis chairman Kazi Inam Ahmed had named Cox’s Bazar and BKSP in Savar as possible venues for the tournament as well.

But after the International Cricket Council deferred October’s Twenty20 World Cup for a year, BCB has expressed their eagerness to fill up that time by rescheduling a few of the series that was postponed earlier due to the COVID-19 and by sending the HP team to Sri Lanka in the coming months.

CCDM chairman Kazi Inam also said that they need to have the green signal from the government  to resume the tournament and in this regard, there is a development as the Youth and Sports Ministry said on August 10 that all the suspended sports and training activities at all levels of the country can resume in a limited scale now.
