The number of coronavirus (Covid-19) cases reached 70,722 mark in Chattogram district where the infection rate continues rising again in recent weeks. Health officials said the number of Covid-19 cases speedily raised to 70,722 as 765 more persons were reported Covid-19 positive after testing 2438 samples with the daily infection rate of 31.86 percent on Sunday in Chattogram.
“The infection rate is showing a quick rising trend again and recovery rate is declining continuously in the district in recent weeks,” Focal Person of Covid-19 Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chattogram said. The health experts of Chattogram urged city dwellers again and again to strictly follow health rules and use masks. Among the newly detected patients, 568 are from Chattogram city and 197 from different upazilas of the district, hospital sources said.
With the six death on Sunday, the number of coronavirus (Covid-19) deaths in Chattogram reached 841, Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, said.
Among the reported fatalities, 521 were the residents of the port city and the rest 320 were from different upazilas of the district, he said.
Civil surgeon said that among the total infected persons, 43,531 are the residents of the port city and the rest 17138, are residents of different upazilas of the district.
“The number of cured patients from the lethal virus infection has reached 52,610 in the Chattogram district with the recovery of 255 more patients on Sunday,” Dr Rabbi said, adding that the percentage of recovery rate stands at 74.29.
A total of 7280 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at designated hospitals here, the health official mentioned.
