Covid cases cross 64,000 in Chattogram

The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Chattogram district has crossed the 64,000-mark as 603 fresh cases were reported on till Saturday noon. Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases speedily raised to 64,299 as 603 more persons were reported Covid-19 positive after testing 1907 samples on Friday in the district with an infection rate of 31.62 percent.

 "The infection rate is showing a quick enhancing trend again and recovery rate is also gradually reducing continuously in the district in recent weeks," Focal Person of COVID-19 Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chattogram said.

The health expert of Chattogram urged city dwellers again and again to strictly follow health rules and use masks.

Among the newly detected patients, 436 are from Chattogram city and 167 from different upazilas of the district, hospital sources said. With the three deaths on Friday, the number of coronavirus (COVID-19) deaths in Chattogram reached 757, Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, said.   Among the reported fatalities, 490 were the residents of the port city and the rest 267 were from different upazilas of the district, he said.   Civil surgeon said that among the total infected persons, 49,718 are the residents of the port city and the rest 14,581 are residents of different upazilas of the district.

  "The number of cured patients from the lethal virus infection has reached 50,799 in the Chattogram district with the recovery of 155 more patients on Friday," Dr Rabbi said, adding that the percentage of recovery rate stands at 79.1%.  A total of 6906 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at designated hospitals here, the health official mentioned.
