Covid-19 cases cross 2.5-lakh mark in Bangladesh

The number of coronavirus cases has crossed 250,000-mark in Bangladesh with the detection of 2,851 new cases on Saturday.

Additional Director General for Health Prof Nasima Sultana at the daily bulletin said the total number of cases stood at 252,502.

She said during the last 24 hours till 8am, they had recorded 27 more deaths from the disease while 1,760 patients were discharged from hospitals.

With that, the death toll rose to 3,333 and the recoveries count 145,584.

Some 12,699 samples have been tested in the last 24 hours.

Bangladesh first confirmed the cases on March 8 and the death on March 18. The WHO declared the disease pandemic on March 11.

Of the latest victims, 24 were men and three were women.

Twenty-six of them have died in different hospitals and one at his home.

 Thirteen of them hailed from Dhaka, five from Khulna, three each from Chattogram and Rajshahi, two were from Rangpur and one from Barishal.

So far, 57.66 percent of patients have recovered in Bangladesh, while 1.30 percent died.

Currently, 52,609 people are quarantined across the country – including 2,060 newly-quarantined individuals.

A total of 395,529 people have completed their quarantine course.

The country has the capability to accommodate 31,991 people at 629 institutional quarantine facilities across the country, according to Prof Nasima.

The authorities placed 815 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 18,651 after 36,524 left.

So far, Bangladesh has tested 1,237,823 samples since January 21 when the first test was done to find the cases in the country.

The virus emerged in China first in December.
