Countrywide eviction drives begin 44,000 illegal structures to be removed

Explaining government’s position against the illegal structures, Water Resources Secretary Kabir Bin Anwar on Monday said the government is determined to remove nearly 44,000 illegal structures across the country, reports BSS.

The drive of evicting illegal structures began on Monday and it will continue till the complete removal of these illegal establishments.

“The eviction drive for removing 44,000 illegal establishments in 64 districts across the country began from today and it will continue till the end of the problem,” said the secretary while overseeing the eviction drive of 70 illegal structures on the 3.10 kilometers long Ramchandrapur canal at Mohammadpur in the city.

He said, “If necessary, we are ready to take legal aid on the issue.”

The concerned district water resources development and management committee headed by the deputy commissioner has prepared the list of the illegal structures in the concerned district working after long a year.

The eviction drive is also a supporting initiative for implementing the Delta plan initiated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said the secretary at the programme organized by district water resources development and management committee.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (revenue) of Dhaka Abul Fateh Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, Additional Commissioner (Land) M Rabiul Alam, Superintendent Engineer of Dhaka M Abdul Matin Sarker and Executive Engineer of Dhaka-2 circle Dewan Ainun Haque, among others, attended the programme.

To coordinate the drive with the concerned district administrations, a control room has been opened at the ministry, said an official release.

The local administration will take initiatives of tree plantation and construction of walkway to stop further grabbing of the recovered land.

Earlier, the water resources secretary along with the representatives from cabinet division, public security division and shipping ministry gave directives through a video conference to the deputy commissioners for carrying out the eviction drive.
