Country sees 218 Covid deaths in a day

Bangladesh registered 218 more deaths from Covid-19 till 8am Saturday, taking the death toll to 20,685.

A press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday said.

Earlier, 212 people died on Friday, 239 on Thursday, 237 on Wednesday, 258 on Tuesday, 247 on Monday and 228 on Sunday. On July 7, the death toll crossed 200-mark for the first time. 201 people died on that day.

Samples were collected from 30,976 people in 24 hours while 30,980 have been tested. A total of 7,740,894 samples have been tested in the country so far.

The current positivity rate stands at 30.24 percent and the overall positivity rate stands at 16.14 percent. 

Among the 218 deceased, 134 were men, and 84 were women. Of the victims, 203 died in different hospitals across the country and 13 died at home. 

67 of the deceased were from the Dhaka division, 27 from Khulna, 55 from Chattogram, 22 from Rajshahi, 16 from Rangpur, 12 from Mymensingh, nine from Sylhet and 10 were from Barisal division.

During this period 14,017 Covid-19 patients have recovered. A total of 1,078,212 people have recovered from the virus so far.

As of Saturday, 198,176,737 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 194,552,936 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
