Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun on Wednesday said there is a buffer stock of salt in the country for the next one year as its production in the last dry season was more than the demand, reports BSS.

“There is no difference between the demand and supply of salt as its production has increased. In the last dry season, the production was above the demand. The new season has already started,” he told journalists after participating in the opening session of the ‘Bangladesh Digital Wages Summit’ at Radisson Blue Water Garden Hotel in the city.

State Minister for Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak also spoke on the occasion. Humayun said the stock of salt is enough in view of the demand and there will be no shortage of salt in the next one year. Despite the sufficient reserve of salt, the minister said, a vested quarter is trying to destabilize the country’s salt market through spreading rumors for hindering the development activities of the country.

“The development activities of the country are ongoing. For hindering the country’s development, a vested quarter is hatching conspiracies against the government,” he added. Responding to a question, State Minister Palak said, law enforcement agencies are taking necessary actions against those people who are spreading rumors through using the digital platforms, including Facebook.

“We have the technology to indentify false propagandists. A dedicated team, coordination of the ICT Division, Home Ministry and detective branches, is working to trace the false propagandists,” he added.

He informed that those involved with salt related propaganda s have already been identified. “Some of them are staying in the country while others are out of the country. We are working to bring those at home under the law. But, for the outside propagandists, we are taking measures through the administration of the social media,” he added.
