Concern over increasing sound pollution in Rangpur city

Speakers at a discussion in Rangpur on Thursday expressed deep concern over increasing sound pollution in Rangpur saying the annoyance is becoming uncontrolled in the city city caused by indiscriminate use of hydraulic horns, reports BSS. 

Most of the motorized vehicles are taking advantage of loopholes of the law while using hydraulic horns while negligence in execution of law has also emerged as a big concern, they said.

Non-government organization Self-help and Advancement Development Organisation (SHADO) organized the discussion on ‘Our Role in Controlling Hydraulic Horns’ at public library cum meeting center ‘Boibari’ in the city. Speakers stressed on creating awareness among drivers and owners of the vehicles to control sound pollution to save public health and environment.

Akbar Hossain, president of Rangpur unit of ‘Sushashoner Janno Nagorik was in the chair while Additional Superintendent of Police Saifur Rahman Saif, Executive Director of SHADO Khondker Sarwar Jamil, environmental activists Principal Fakhrul Anam Benzu, Merajul Islam, Rezaul Karim Jiban and Kamruzzaman Badsha, took part in the discussion.
