Commonwealth Games preparation going on in full swing

Preparation for the upcoming Commonwealth Games is going on full swing when 30 athletes of different events have been running through at different venues in the city. 

The 2022 Commonwealth Games scheduled to take place from July 28 to August 8 in Birmingham, England. 

It is the 10th times appearance for Bangladesh in the Commonwealth Games when in the 22nd edition Bangladesh will take part in seven events with having Open Allocation in five events and qualified in two events. 

A total of 30 athletes will compete in seven events with athletics, swimming, boxing, gymnastics and wrestling are Open Allocation category when Table Tennis and weightlifting qualified to contest in the Games.

Among the 30 athletes, five are athletics, five swimmers, three Boxer, three gymnast, four wrestlers, six table tennis players and four weightlifters will compete in their respective disciplines.     

However, Abhijit Sarker, member secretary of the training and development committee of the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) informed the Bangladesh post on Wednesday that the preparation for all the events of Commonwealth Games are going on full swing. 

“Five athletes are at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Pratisthan (BKS), five swimmers at the Mirpur swimming pool, three boxers are at Mohammed Ali Boxing Stadium, three gymnasts, six table tennis players and four wrestlers are at National Sports Council (NSC) when the weightlifter are at their own practice venue adjacent to the Bangabandhu National Stadium, are taking preparation,” said Avijit Sarker. 

“All the camps of the different events are running under the super vision of the respective federations and BOA also have special care and is strictly control overall works,” Abhijit said.

“We (BOA) are providing all the necessary facilities for the athletes when the training camps are not only for Commonwealth Games but the camps are running simultaneously for Islami Solidarity and SA Games also,” Abhijit revealed.           

Meanwhile, Bangladesh in their previous nine times appearances in the Commonwealth Games  could win a total of eight medals with two gold  medals, four silver and two bronze and all came in shooting events. 

But this time shooting was not considered in the Birmingham Games and Bangladesh can’t dream to win any medal in the Birmingham Games.
