Comilla thrash Rangpur with 70 runs win in BPL

Comilla Victorians registered a valuable win outplaying Rangpur Riders by 70 runs in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) cricket on Friday.

Held at the Sher-e-Bngla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur, a combined 72-run in 6.4 overs in sixth-wicket stand with Jaker Ali and khushdil Shah helped Comilla Victorians to amass a formidable to 177 runs in stipulated 20 overs and later on a disciplined tight bowling attack booked Rangpur Riders for 107 runs.

By virtue of the win Comilla Victorians joined with the table toppers Sylhet Strikers obtaining 18 points from nine wins out of 12 matches.   

However, earlier, after being sent to bat first Comilla Victorians openers Mohammed Rezwan and Liton Das were noticeably positive in their approach in batting to score 43 runs in five overs before the partnership broken.  

Liton Das, who looked aggressive mood right from opening his innings, guided the team to reach on 101 runs in 12.2 overs along with Rezwan, Sunil and Imrul Kayes, as Comilla Victorians scored 63 runs in their first power play and acknowledged to set a challenging target for Rangpur Riders.  

The national team’s opener Liton Das, who played an inspirational 47 runs off 33 balls, featured with three fours and as many sixes before being caught by Shamim off a Rakibul’s slower delivery, Rezwan accompanied him with 24 runs.

Sunil Naraine and the captain Imrul Kayes could not last a long at the crease to build a big partnership with Liton Das, when they got out within short intervals.

Jaker Ali, who came after Sunil and Imrul Kayes’s departure to join with Litton, played 38 runs partnership.

But Jaker Ali and Khurshid Shah in sixth wicket partnership played the most significant role with scoring 72 runs off 40 balls when Jaker Ali in his 34 from 23 deliveries hit three sixes.

The left-handed Khurshid Shah of Pakistan was more attacking with 200 striking rate to smash three sixes and two fours to score 40 off 20 balls to convey an important contribution.

Replying to chase a challenging target Rangpur Riders started the innings with a huge disaster losing fist wicket on 12 runs and the next three batters went in a regular interval when they were reduced to 31 for four by 5.2 overs.

Opener Mohammad Naim and Rony Talukder left the team on 20 when Rahmatullah Gurbaz, though came to rebuild the damage with Tom Kohler and Nurul Hassan Shohan but both the batters got out cheaply when the scorecard showing 32 for four.   

Rahmatullah Gurbaz the Afghan batter though tipped off to rescue Rangpur from the debris cracking a couple of boundary and as many over boundary with a bit attacking approach, could manage only 29 runs off 22 balls.

Later on Azmatullah Omarzai and Rakibul Hassan looked to bring the team to a respectable position but the former was bowled by Sunil Narine and the latter was run out scoring 15 and 16 runs respectively.

Rangpur had for long stretches been left frustrated with several edges, as Mustafizur Rahman (3 wickets), Tanvir islam and Sunil Narine (two wickets each) were very much disciplined in their bowling attack sharing seven wickets among them to book the opponents on 107 runs by 17 overs.
