Coast Guard seizes 19.7 million meters of illegal current nets

Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) Station Pagla carried out a six hours drive in Panchasar and Gushaibagh areas adjacent to Muktarpur Bridge under Munshiganj Sadar Police Station on Tuesday. 

BCG members seized 19.7 million meteres of illegal current nets raiding three factories named Saoban Fiber Ind. Ltd., Tamnoy Fishing Net Ind. Ltd. and Rana Munshi New Current Net Factory during the raid, conducted from 3 am to 9 am. However, none involved could be apprehended at the time, as no one was present at the factory.

 The operation was carried out on the basis of secret information under the leadership of BCG Station Pagla Commander Lt. M Ashmadul. The estimated value of the seized net is around Tk 59 crore 10 lakh. 

Munshiganj District Fisheries Officer Dr. Abdul Alim, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Tipu Sultan, Executive Magistrate Md. Ilias Sikder also participated in the operation. The seized nets were later destroyed by fire. 

Bangladesh Coast Guard has continued and will continue to carry out regular operations in the areas covered by the Coast Guard to maintain law and order, to provide public safety as well as to curb piracy, robbery, drug trade and fishing with illegal current nets.
