CNG driver, passenger killed in city road accident

Two people including an auto-rickshaw(CNG) driver were killed in a head-on collision between a private car and a CNG at Uttara area in the capital here this morning.

The deceased were identified as CNG driver Taibur Ali Taiyeb, 60, and its passenger Ratul, 28.

Uttara West Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shah Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman Ilias confirmed the incident saying that the accident took place at Uttara sector 13 near ‘Singer' crossing of the area when the private car dashed the CNG auto-rickshaw.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Sahin Al Rashid, Duty Officer of Uttara West Police Station, told BSS that, “the injured were rushed to the emergency department of the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). The duty doctors at the hospital declared them as dead.”

Both the vehicles involved in the accident have been taken in police custody, he said. The bodies of the deceased were kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsy.

Police sources said, Bulbul Ahmed, 38, the driver of the private car was arrested. Preparations were underway to file a case against him under the Road Transport Act.
