CID nabs prime accused of UP member murder

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police arrested the prime accused of Hamidul Hoque Member killing from the city on Monday night.

CID's Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jisan Ul Haque confirmed the matter to the Bangladesh Post on Tuesday.

The arrestee is identified as Robi Sharif, 57.

Earlier on December 12, Hamidul, who was a UP Member of Gopinathpur Union Parishad (UP), was shot to death. After the killing, CID started shadow investigation and seized the motorbike- Gopalganj LA-11-1481 along with its driver Amir Mollah in connection with the murder. 

Acting on a tip off, CID launched drives to arrest the key-accused behind the murder. At one stage, Robi Sharif was nabbed from city’s Patuatuli area on Monday night.

According to the CID officials, mastermind Robi Sharif hired Amir Mollah to share ride for bringing him to Gopalganj from Jashore on December 11.

“He was waiting at Khanaigaht area while going to Gopalganj.  Victim Hamidul was chatting with local Mizan member and Polash Sheikh there.  Later he arrived at the High School gate. Robi was following him. At around 7:30pm, Robi shot Hamidul dead while he was returning his home by a rickshaw van.  After the murder, Robi remained absconding. But, CID finally arrested him from the Old Dhaka area on Monday night,” CID sources said.
