Passengers and pedestrians trade on Chuadanga-Dhaka highway taking grave risk of life as a number of 32 electric poles stand on the road and roadside, putting the drivers amid great trouble.

People of Chuadanga who are bound to use the highway on a regular basis apprehended that it might cause fatal accidents at any time. They claimed that the West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited (WZPDCL) authorities do not remove those electric polls. On the other hand, the WZPDCL authorities said that they had submitted proposals to Roads and Highways department (R&H) long ago.

Local pedestrians and drivers said every day they had to cross Uttar Narayanpur and Dakbangla Hall Bazar area with high risk. Two trucks of Jamuna Oil Company met road accident near the poles on May 13 last. Fatal road accident and electricity related massacre might take place.

Shariful Islam, a driver of a passenger bus, said they had to cross the risky area at Dakbangla taking high risk.

Anupam Chakravarty, Sub divisional engineer of WZPDCL admitted the existence of the electric polls on road. “Tk 43.5 lakh was allocated for the relocation of the poles in March this year. We submitted a proposal to the R&H last year but the R&H authorities expressed their budgetary limitations.”

Nazrul Islam, executive engineer of R&H, however, said that did not receive any letter from the WZPDCL authorities this year in this regard.
