A team of Chinese medical experts on Covid-19 is due to arrive in Bangladesh with a “bunch of medical equipment” on June 8.

The Chinese embassy in Dhaka in a statement said the team would be coming as part of President Xi Jinping’s commitment to stand by Bangladesh during this time of crisis.

In a telephone talk on May 20, he reassured Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina that China will be “standing side by side with Bangladesh as a trusted friend in this all-out war against COVID-19.”

“A series of cooperative measures have been taken by the Chinese side and most of which have already been implemented in Bangladesh since the onset of the outbreak here,” the embassy said.

The medical team is organised by the National Health Commission and consists of 10 experienced physicians mainly from Hainan Province.

They have the hands-on experience of containing coronavirus and treating the patients with remarkable success, the embassy said.

In their 2-week stay in Bangladesh, the experts will pay “field visit to and work in designated hospitals, quarantine centers, and testing sites, conduct in-depth discussions on the epidemics with Bangladeshi counterparts, and provide guiding technical advices for containment and treatment.”
