‘China working with Bangladesh, Myanmar to solve Rohingya crisis’

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming has said that the Chinese government is working with the Bangladesh government on how to repatriate Myanmar Rohingyas who have taken refuge in Bangladesh. Rohingyas have taken refuge in Bangladesh after being displaced from Myanmar for the last five years. China is mediating between Bangladesh and Myanmar over the repatriation of Rohingyas. During the last two days of the visit to the Rohingya camp, representatives of the Government of Bangladesh, representatives of the United Nations and representatives of international organizations, including the UNHCR, have spoken. China wants the Rohingya people to return to their homeland as soon as possible. China has always been cooperating with Bangladesh and Myanmar to make happen the rapid repatriation of Rohingyas. China will also extend all possible assistance to the United Nations and other international organizations to repatriate the Rohingya.

The ambassador made the remarks while visiting Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital on Thursday afternoon while handing over medical equipment from the Chinese government. At that time, the ambassador informed that China is a close friend of Bangladesh. China has always extended a hand of friendship to the people of Bangladesh. Due to the displaced Rohingyas in Myanmar, the common people of Cox's Bazar are being affected in many ways including medical services. The Ambassador assured more cooperation for the people of Cox's Bazar in the future. During the visit, the Ambassador visited the medical facilities of the District Sadar Hospital and various wards of the hospital and exchanged views with the doctors.

Also present during the handing over of medical equipment were Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital Management Committee Chairman, local MP Saimum Sarwar Kamal, Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Shah Rezwan Hayat, Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mamunur Rashid and District Sadar Hospital Supervisor Dr Mominur Rahman and other officials.
