After a visit to Rohingya camp on Monday, the new Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Li Jiming said that China was hopeful of resolving the Rohingya crisis and that his country would do whatever is necessary in this regard. "We are holding talks with officials of the Bangladesh government and Rohingya refugees and are trying to understand the problem. A quick and effective resolution is possible to help resolve the situation," said Li Jiming.

Mentionable, an 8-member Chinese delegation, led by Chinese ambassador Li Jiming, visited Rohingya camps at Shalbagan in Teqnaf. They later went around the Nayapara's Machoni camp and exchanged views with about 20 Rohingya men and women, including the leaders representing the community.

The Chinese team requested the Rohingya leaders to go back to their homeland. Reportedly, Ambassador Li Jiming offered refugees two specific proposals. Firstly – each member will be given two mobile phone hand-sets during their repatriation process. Each Rohingya person will carry one mobile hand-set and leave the other one with his/her family in the camps in Cox's Bazar. After reaching Myanmar they will call their family members in Bangladesh and brief them about the situation there. If it is favourable in Rakhine state, they would ask the family members to return to their homeland.

Secondly, another Rohingya group would go to their home in Rakhine state and see for themselves the situation there. If they see a better situation there, they would come back and take their families back to Myanmar. It is learnt that in response to the two proposals, Rohingya representatives have agreed and expressed their willingness.

Earlier on Sunday, the Chinese delegation visited the no man's land between Bangladesh and Myanmar in Ghumdhum of Bandarban’s Naikhongchari upazila. There Rohingya representatives said they would return home if only they are granted Myanmar citizenship.
