Charukala Barishal founding fest ends

Barishal-based fine arts organisation Charukala Barishal celebrated its 32nd founding anniversary organising a two-day festival.

The event, held at Ashwini Kumar Hall in Barishal city, featured a procession, children’s painting competition, discussion, prize giving ceremony and more.

Divisional commissioner of Barishal Ram Chandra Das inaugurated the celebration programme on Friday.

Divisional chief of UNICEF A H Towfique Ahmed, cultural activist advocate S M Iqbal, rights activists Shah Sajeda and Dr Naima Kabir and president of Barishal Cultural Alliance Coordination Association Kajal Ghosh, among others, were present as special guests at the  inaugural programme.

The speakers said that promoting fine arts practices among the younger generation is crucial in combating foreign cultural aggression and religious bigotry.

Following the discussion, a children’s painting competition was held. An exhibition, featuring 150 paintings by Charukala Barishal members, was also held at the venue.

The closing ceremony of the festival, held on Saturday, featured discussion, cultural show and prize giving ceremony where Barishal City Corporation Mayor Serniabat Sadik Abdullah was present as the chief guest.

Acting deputy commissioner Shahidul Islam, chief executive officer of BCC Khairul Hasan and managing director of Amrita Consumer Food Products Vanu Lal Dey were present as special guests at the event, presided over by president of Charukala Barishal Altaf Hossain.

Besides, a new committee of Charukala Barishal was also elected.
