Charge framing hearing in Dipan murder trial on Aug 22

An anti-terror tribunal Monday set August 22 to hold hearing on charge framing against eight militants of banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) in a case lodged over murder of publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan in 2016, reports BSS.

Judge Mujibur Rahman of Anti-Terror Tribunal set the date as court published advertisements in newspapers to appear two fugitives in the case, a court official confirmed. The tribunal March 19 accepted the charge sheet filed in the case and issued arrest warrants against fugitives sacked Army Major Syed Ziaul Haque and Akram Hossain.

Investigation officer and detective branch assistant police commissioner Fazlur Rahman on November 15 filed the charge sheet against eight accused. The accused are- sacked Army Major Ziaul Haque, Moinul Hasan Shamim, Md Abdus Sabur, Khairul Islam, Md Abu Siddique Sohel, Md Mozammel Hossain Saimon, Md Sheikh Abdullah, and Akram Hossain alias Hasib.

Of the eight, six have been arrested on different occasions, and already gave confessional statements. Jagriti Prokashoni publisher Dipan was hacked to death in his Aziz Super Market office on November 31, 2016. His wife Rajia Rahman filed the case on that day with Shahbagh Police Station.
