CCC Mayor begins canal excavation

City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin inaugurated a canal excavation project from the city's Bahaddarhat to Karnaphuli river. He inaugurated the project on Tuesday morning, sitting in the driver's seat in the scavenger. Later he attended a meeting organized on this occasion. 

Councilor Harunur Rashid presided over the meeting. Panel Mayor Zobira Nargis Khan, Councilor M Ashraful Alam, Chief Engineer Lt Col Sohail Ahmed, Chittagong Press Club General Secretary Chowdhury Farid, CCC Additional Chief Engineer Rafiqul Islam Manik were present in the meeting. AJM Nasir Uddin said the canal would be a non-stop canal. Which is nowhere else in the country. 

The canal will be approximately 2.9 km long and 65 feet wide. Two roads and work ways will be constructed and beautified by 20 feet on either side of the canal in order to lift the soil, repair and create new communication system.

He said that if the new canal excavation project is implemented, the area's waterlogging will be reduced. It is said that the development of the communication system and the spread of trade and commerce will occur. If the project is fully implemented, East-West Sholashahar, Chandgaon, Mohra, North-South-East-West Baklia and Chawkbazar will play a vital role in reducing waterlogging.
