Cattle train carries cows to capital

Hundreds of sacrificial animals have been brought to the capital by ‘Cattle Special Train’ on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Azha. 

Operated by Bangladesh Railway, two trains came from Dewanganj Bazar in the eastern part of Jamalpur and another train came from the western part of Chapainawabganj. About one thousand cows and goats have been brought to Dhaka in these trains.

The information was given in a statement signed by railway ministry’s senior senior information officer Md Shariful Alam.

According to the notification, the first Cattle Special train arrived in Dhaka with 400 cows in 25 wagons -- 16 animals in each wagon. The train left Dewanganj Bazar in Jamalpur at 2 pm on Wednesday and reached Dhaka via Islampur Bazar at 4.40 am on Thursday.

The second Cattle Special Second Train reached Dhaka with 400 cows in 25 wagons. The train brought 288 cows in 18 wagons from Dewanganj Bazar and 122 cows in seven wagons from Islampur Bazar. 

The total number of cows carried by these two trains was 800 and Tk 396110 was collected as fare.

The Cattle Special 3rd train left Chapainawabganj, Rajshahi and Baral Bridge in the western region with a total of 36 cows and 180 goats at 4 pm on Wednesday and reached Dhaka station at 7 am on Thursday. The total fare collected from this train stood at Tk 42120.

Besides, thousands of sacrificial animals have been brought to the capital by trucks and water ferries.
