Cases filed over Moulvibazar four-murder, suicide

Two cases were filed with Bar­lekha Police Station in Mou­lvibazar over killing of four people before committing suicide of a man at Pallathal tea garden under Uttar Shahbazpur union at Barlekha upazila in Moulvibazar. 

Assistant manager of Pallathal tea garden Jakir Hossain filed one of the cases on Sunday night, while another UD case was filed over suicide incident. However, no name was mentioned in the murder case.

Md Jasim, sub-inspector of Barlekha Police Station, confirmed the matter on Monday morning. He said that they are investigating the matter. 

Nirmal Karmaker committed suicide after killing four people, including his wife and mother-in-law, at Pallartal tea garden on Sunday morning.

The deceased were identified as Nirmal Karmaker 30, his wife Joly Bunarjee, 26, mother-in-law Laxmi, 45, and neighbours Bashanta 37, and Sheuli, 6. Everyone except Nirmal worked at tea gardens.

Nirmal used to live at his in-law’s house since his marriage. The couple had an altercation over family dispute in the early morning. At one stage, Nirmal beat Joly up and stabbed her indiscriminately, leaving her dead.

Laxmi, Bashanta and Sheuli were hacked to death by Nirmal when they came to rescue Joly. Later, the man reportedly hanged himself from the ceiling of his house.
