Since the Ministry of Home has suspended operation of Godagari Immigration Checkpost from November-15,2009, the sufferings of passengers and traders to and from India and Bangladesh through the Check post have been intensified.

It is learnt, the Immigration and Customs Department of the Ministry of Home through a memorandum signed on November-5, 2009 ordered to stop all activities of Godagari Immigration Cheque Check post for an indefinite period from November-15, 2009.

Due to the closure of Godagari Immigration Check Post which had been continuing operation from after the Independent of the country,  many passengers, mainly the patients and the pilgrims are facing trouble.

Specially, those who are returning from India through Lal Gola check post in Murshidabad of West Bengal are the worst sufferers. After crossing the river Padma by walking three-kilometre long Charland, those passengers are watching the check post closed and thus they are once again travelling to Sona Masjid, some 50 kilometre away from Godagari.

The passengers, intending to travel to India through Godagari route are also facing trouble by not getting their immigration clearance here. As a result, they are also being harassed and financially losers. Such passengers are also needed to procure permission from the concerned Indian High Commission to change their route of travel.

It is learnt, travelling to Kolkata through Lalgola-Godagari route is easy and hassle-free. It takes only three kilometre way to reach Lalgola of India from Godagari from where one can reach Kolkata direct through buses or through trains. But during the rainy season, the river water being increased, passengers used to avoid this route.

On the plea of not getting enough passengers through this route, the authorities concerned has closed down the immigration check post for an indefinite period, officials staying at the Immigration office informed.

Professor Shanta Kumar Majumder, President of Godagari Nagorilk Committee informed, people of adjacent districts including Pabna, Bogura, Naogaon, Rajshahi, Sirajganj and Natore are suffering much for the closure of the immigration check post.

They also need to count more money, time and face trouble in travelling to and from India through other routes. He has demanded the immediate reopening of the immigration check post.

Meanwhile, a source of Godagari police station informed, the government through a letter has closed the operation of the check post on the pleas of the decreased number of passengers through the route.
