Speakers at a view-exchange meeting in Khulna on Tuesday highly praised the government for inclusion of the RTI Act in the textbooks of ninth and tenth grades, expressing hope that it would create awareness among the people about the law, reports BSS.

They said journalists should take the advantage of RTI Act to get information for dissemination of news and media can also play a vital role in creating awareness among the people about the necessity of the RTI law.

They made the observations while addressing a meeting titled ‘Right to Information (RTI) Act and Mass Media’ at the conference room of Khulna Circuit House. Khulna Regional Information Office (RIO) organised the meeting.

With deputy chief of RIO Md Javed Iqbal in the chair, the meeting was addressed by Treasurer of Khulna University (KU) Professor Sadhan Ranjan Ghosh as the chief guest.

President of Khulna Union of Journalists Mahbub Alam Sohag and Khulna Press Club President (KPC) Habibur Rahman addressed the event as special guests. Assistant Information Officer Atiqur Rahman delivered the welcome speech.

The act has opened up the door for journalists, they said, adding this will help reduce corruption, irregularities and mismanagement as well as ensure the rights to know.

Leaders of civil society, NGO representatives and local journalists, among others, attended the meeting.
