Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud Sunday informed that Bangladesh Television (BTV) would be aired in India soon. “The final agreement to air BTV in India has been completed and a technical team will visit New Delhi from June 25 to 27 in this regard,” he told reporters at a press conference at the meeting room of his secretariat office here.

Dr Hasan said the date of airing BTV in India will be finalized after returning the technical team from India. “A working agreement has been signed on May 7 and the newly appointed Indian information minister gave the final approval to the agreement on June 19,” he added. The minister said the all activities have been completed through the approval to air Bangladesh Television in all over India.

Besides, Dr Hasan said, another agreement has been done between Bangladesh Betar and Prasar Bharati to broadcast betar programmes in India. “Now the programmes of Bangladesh Betar will be aired in India soon,” he added. Replying to a question, Dr Hasan said there is no bar from Bangladesh government to air the country’s private channels in India. But it is not possible as the Indian cable operators are demanding high fees to air private TV channels, he added.
“I hope it will also be opened for Bangladeshi private channels soon,” he said.

Dr Hasan, also Awami League publicity and publication secretary, greeted the countrymen including all leaders and activists of his party and its associate bodies on the occasion of AL’s 70th founding anniversary. He said, “We got independence under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1971 and now the country has graduated to a developing nation from LDC for the dynamic leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.” Bangladesh is now a role model before the world community, the minister said, adding it (Bangladesh) has become a food-surplus country.
