Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) officially started with the passage of the law on 6 July, 2001. Although it started later, the activities of the university were stopped due to political revenge.

Later, the academic activities of the university started from the academic year 2011-12.  Although 19 years have passed since the establishment of the university and 10 years have passed since its inception, the institutional e-mail account has not been added to the fortunes of the students.

As a result, the students are complaining that they are suffering in e-learning, scholarships and especially in research work. Some students responded through social media, saying, "Many universities are giving notices for e-mail accounts. What will happen to us? Why should we be left behind?"

Institutional e-mails are required for a variety of tasks, including reading research articles online from well-known journals around the world, publishing research papers, receiving research grants, and applying for scholarships.  But no action has been taken by the BSMRSTU administration on this important issue.  As a result, students interested in research are facing various complications.  Many are losing interest in multidisciplinary research.

The chief programmer of the university's ICT cell is B.M.  Ariful Islam said about institutional emails, “Earlier, a small number of institutional e-mails were provided by the university for those who were interested in higher education and research abroad.”

Further he said, “During the Corona      period, the demand for it among the students to participate in various courses and other programs at home and abroad has increased tremendously.

If the university administration takes the initiative, it is possible to provide institutional e-mail to all students, we have that capability. ”
