Theatre troupe Upstage staged its debut production titled ‘Raat Bhore Brishti’ at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Saturday.

The play is based on Indian writer Buddhadeb Basu’s novel with the same title.

Raat Bhore Brishti, which was published in 1967, was banned at the lower court on the grounds of vulgarity following a case that was filed by a college student in 1969. The ban was later overturned and the case was resolved in 1973.

The play has been adapted and directed by Saif Sumon which revolves around a love triangle story involving three characters such as Monimala, Angshu and Jay.

Kazi Roksana Roma, Prashanta Halder and Ronjan Dey Sathi acted in the play.

Raat Bhore Brishti is the eighth production directed by Sumon. He has previously directed the plays like Namano Srijani, Joborajok Bhalobasha, Otto Melar Opare, Mogoj Shomachar, Open Tee Bioscope, Buddhir Dheki and Khoyar.
