Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector has the potential to create one lakh job opportunities and generate USD 1 billion in revenue by 2025. To meet this goal, a substantial workforce will be required.

The BACCO General Secretary, Towhid Hossain, said that the challenges faced by the BPO sector due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, which resulted in a 70 percent reduction in business, the sector has regained its momentum.

He said this during a press meeting titled ‘BPO Summit Bangladesh 2023’ held at a city hotel on Sunday.

The upcoming BPO Summit Bangladesh 2023, organized by the Bangladesh Association of Contact Center and Outsourcing (BACCO), is set to create significant employment opportunities and generate substantial revenue for the country’s Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector.

The summit, scheduled to commence on May 23 at Rajshahi University, Rajshahi College, and Polytechnic, will subsequently be held in seven other divisions until July 20. The esteemed conference will be inaugurated by the State Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, in Natore on May 24.

The BPO Summit Bangladesh 2023 will feature a career council, seminars, and a job fair aimed at enabling graduate students to access global employment opportunities without having to relocate to Dhaka. This endeavor will empower them to work from their own villages, boosting economic prospects in rural areas.

Towhid Hossain further highlighted that 35 percent of the BPO sector's work depends on the foreign market, while the remaining 65 percent serves the domestic market. Recognizing the need for qualified workers, approximately 700,000 youths have already been trained in the BPO sector.

However, it was observed that 30 percent of these trained individuals switch jobs due to a lack of career satisfaction. Addressing this concern is crucial to retaining skilled professionals in the sector.

BACCO Vice President Tanveer Ibrahim expressed optimism about the future of Bangladesh's economy, stating that the country is poised to become the 25th largest and most powerful economy globally by 2035, ultimately reaching the milestone of a trillion-dollar economy.

The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector, classified as a Thrust Sector by the Government of Bangladesh, will play a vital role in achieving this ambitious economic growth, second only to the garment industry in terms of earning foreign exchange.

Business Promotion Council Assistant Executive Officer, Md. Faisal Khan, emphasized the need to educate youth about the diverse job opportunities available in the BPO industry. He clarified that BPO encompasses more than just call center roles, underscoring the importance of training individuals for a range of positions within the sector.

To support this objective, the Business Promotion Council, in collaboration with BACCO, has already trained over two hundred freelancers to become entrepreneurs. They intend to continue this training program in the future.

With the BPO sector poised for growth and the BPO Summit Bangladesh 2023 set to facilitate its expansion, stakeholders are enthusiastic about leveraging the advantages of this sector to contribute significantly to the national economy. By creating employment opportunities and connecting Bangladesh with the global marketplace, the BPO industry aims to propel the country's economic progress in the years to come.
