Bourses extend downbeat

Country’s premier bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed today extending the downbeat of the previous session amid day- long selling pressure with comparatively poor participations from investors, reports BSS.

The broad index, DSEX closed at 4419.82 points on Tuesday with a loss of 78.66 points or 1.74 percent.

Besides, the two selective indices, Blue Chip index, DSE30 and the Shariah index, DSES also went down by 30.33 points and 20.27 points to settle at 1508.28 points and 994.78 points respectively.

On the DSE trading floor, a total number of 111,618 trades were executed in today’s trading session with a trading volume of 108.35 million securities. Losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 353 issues traded, 35 securities gained price while 278 declined and 40 remained unchanged.

The top 10 gainers were Anlima Yarn, Beacon Pharma, Standard Ceramics, Rahim Textile, Hakaani Pulp, Karnaphuli Insurance, Agni System, Zenex Infosys, Al-haj Tex and GlaxoSmithKline.

Ring Shine topped the turnover chart followed by Beacon Pharma, Square Pharma, Standard Ceramics, Brac Bank, Khulna Power, Zenex Infosys, BNICL, National Tubes and Grameenphone.

The top 10 losers were Tung Hai, Zaheen Spinning, Ring Shine, New Line Clothing, Shyampur Sugar, Saiham Cotton, Dhaka Dying, National Housing, Coppertech Industries and Sinobangla Industries.

On the other hand, the port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed at red extending the losing streak of the previous day.

CSCX and CASPI decreased by 144.36 points and 232.87 points to stand at 8151.43 points and 13441.58 points respectively. At CSE, a total of 7,393,202 shares and mutual fund of 230 companies were traded, of which 35 issues advanced while 173 declined and 22 issues remained unchanged.
