Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) should congratulate Awami League (AL) and its President Sheikh Hasina for the on-going drive against corruption and irregularities, reports BSS.
“Awami League has started what the BNP could not do,” he told journalists at Osmani International Airport here. The minister came here to join a condolence meeting for former Sylhet District Awami League president ANM Shafiqur Rahman. Quader, also general secretary of the AL, said all the irregularities including corruption, tender manipulation and extortion were initiated by the BNP, but it did not take any action against the party men.
The BNP should thank the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said, adding that “Sheikh Hasina has shown that she can do what Khaleda Zia failed to do.” “The AL has started the drive against graft and irregularities from its own house,” the minister told the newsmen.He asked BNP leaders to do constructive criticism of the government instead of criticizing it for the sake of criticism.
District Awami League president Advocate Lutfur Rahman, general secretary Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury, organizing secretary Advocate Misbah Uddin Siraj, central member Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran, among others, were present.
