BNP calls daylong Hartal in Dhaka today

Rejecting the results of the elections to Dhaka South and North city corporations Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has declared down to dusk hartal in Dhaka for today. BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the announcement at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office on Saturday evening.

He said, “Our apprehensions about polls manipulations have come true. As they (Awami League) did it in the past, they did it again during today’s (Saturday) polls using the election commission.” The government has destroyed all the democratic institutions. Their main goal is to establish a one-party rule, he added.

Announcing the down to dusk hartal for Sunday, Mirza Fakhrul said they will go for further actions is the Election Commission does not take any action. BNP Standing Committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Nazrul Islam Khan, Abdul Moin Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Begum Selima Rahman, Iqbal Hasan Mahmood Tukam, Chairperson of the BNP were present at the press conference.
