Opposition BNP on Thursday alleged that ruling Awami League wants victory in the elections to two city corporations in Dhaka by manipulating the situation. The BNP raised the allegation during a meeting with the Election Commission (EC) officials at the EC Headquarters at the capital’s Agargaon.

Emerging out the meeting, BNP Steering Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury told journalists that BNP had lodged a plenty of allegations to the EC regarding the violation of electoral code of conducts. But none of them were addressed and solved.

The Awami League also violated the rules by holding a rally at the capital’s Suhrawardy Udyan, he said.

Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury also alleged that AL has set up electoral camps occupying footpaths, which is totally illegal.

Replying to a question, the BNP leader said if the elections held fairly, all of his party candidates will win.

He was accompanied by BNP leader Bijon Kanti and Moazzem Hossain Alal.

Chaired by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda, Election Commissioners Mahbub Talukder and Kabita Khanam, among others, were also preset at the meeting.

The elections to Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will be held on February 1.
