Bidi workers form human chain before NBR chairman residence in Sirajganj

Hundreds of bidi workers have formed a human chain in front of the residence of Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem, Chairman of National Board of Revenue (NBR) in Sirajganj district in protest against the hiking of tax on the bidi industry.

The workers, who hailed from different districts, including Rangpur, Sirajganj and Pabna, staged the protest on Tuesday to press home their demand. 

They gheraoed the house for about two hours and submitted a memorandum to the NBR chairman demanding deduction of the extra tax imposed in the fiscal year 2020-2021.   

Bangladesh Bidi Sramik Federation Central President MK Bangali, its Executive President Amin Uddin BSc, Central Joint Secretary and Pabnan Bidi Majur Union President  Herik Hossain, Narayanganj district Bidi Sramik Federation President and central committee Publication Secretary Sirazul Islam, Sirajganj district Bidi Sramik Union President Md Amjad Hossain, and its General Secretary Akbar Ali, among others, were present in the programme.
