Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation (BHBFC) is going to offer housing loan at 8 percent interest outside Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas instead of the existing 8.5 percent.

“A proposal in this regard is awaiting approval of the Finance Ministry. After the approval, the new rate will be effective. But, the existing rate of 9 percent for Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas will not change,” BHBFC Managing Director Debasish Chakrabarty told BSS.

He hoped that the new rate for the areas outside Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas will be approved soon and the new rate is likely to be effective from July 1 this year.

The Managing Director said BHBFC is offering seven types of products to take the services of the corporation to all classes of people.

The products are Nagar Bondhu, Falt Loan, Palli Ma, Abasan Unnyan Reen, Abashan Meramat Reen, Probash Bondhu and Krishak Abashan Reen.

Debasish Chakrabarty said another proposal is awaiting approval of the Finance Ministry to increase the ceiling of loans for the Dhaka and Chattogram areas to Taka 2 crore from the existing 1 crore.

Now, he said, a person can take loan of maximum Taka 1 crore in Dhaka and Chattogram areas and maximum Taka 60 lakh in the others areas.

He said the trend of loan disbursement is upward since the BHBFC is providing all sorts of efforts to take the loan facilities to the grassroots level.

BHBFC has disbursed around Taka 550 crore in 2018-19 fiscal which was Taka 400 crore in 2017-18 fiscal, he said.

He said BHBFC is providing online services in all 84 branches across the country, so the borrowers can pay their installments through mobile financial services without coming to the branches.

“We have a plan to increase the number of branches to 100 for proving better services to the customers. A proposal for opening more 16 branches is waiting for approval,” he added.

He said BHBFC has also opened a helpdesk for giving information and solving problems of the customers.

The BHBFC managing director urged the land owners of the Purbachal area to take loan from BHBFC for building their home. “After ensuring electricity, road and sewerage, anyone can apply for the BHBFC loan. But the electricity connection will have to be from DESCO as per the government instruction,” he added.

He encouraged the borrowers to take group loans for saving agriculture land. “We usually encourage for group loans. Because it is helpful for saving agriculture lands,” he added.
