BFSA graded 33 food establishments in FY 2021-22

On Thursday, 33 food establishments were given grading in FY 2021-22 as part of regular work at the initiative of Bangladesh Safe Food Authority.

Md Abdul Qayyum Sarkar, Chairman, Bangladesh Safe Food Authority was present as the Chief Guest at the grading program to be held at 3 pm in the training room of the Authority. 

He said: "The most important thing in the development of tourism is the quality of food. When a tourist goes somewhere, he should get a support by looking at these grading stickers."

Shahnawaz Dilruba Khan, Member of the Authority was present as the President. In his speech, he gave 45 days to those who got low grades. 

During this time he called for them to be promoted.

Kamrul Hasan Bipu, General Secretary, Dhaka South Restaurant Owners' Association, lauded the initiative of the Safe Food Authority and emphasized on training on safe food at various government training institutes. 

During the 2021-22 financial year, 33 food establishments were given new grading and 40 companies were given regrading stickers. Since the launch of the Safe Food Authority, 150 food establishments have been given grading stickers and 61 food establishments have been regraded. Of these, grading stickers were given to 56 food establishments in FY 2018-19, 30 in FY 2019-20, 30 in FY 2020-21 and 33 in FY 2021-22.

It is to be noted that Bangladesh Safe Food Authority started issuing grading stickers to hotel restaurants on the basis of special evaluation from FY 2018-19. A grading stickers are distributed on the basis of A +, A, B and C categories. Grade A + is given for 90 or more marks, A for 80-89 marks, B for 70-79 marks and C for below 70 marks.

Grading stickers are issued considering food storage environment, administrative matters, personal hygiene, cleanliness, food storage and stocking and dealing with the consumer.

During this time, Bangladesh Food Safety Authority introduced its own clothing to facilitate monitoring and inspection of food storage. From now on the food supply will be inspected by wearing this dress of olive color.
