State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has urged the consumers to exercise restraint and to be frugal in using electricity during the month of Ramadan.

He made this call through a status of his verified Facebook page on Thursday morning.

The state minister said “Summer and irrigation season is on, so the demand for electricity is very high. The power division is working hard to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply after ensuring 100 percent electrification. In this case, we expect moderation and frugality in the use of electricity in the interest of all consumers.”

Earlier on March 29, Power Division of the Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry has instructed the power distribution companies to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply  during Ramadan and keep free iftar, tarabi, sehri times from load-shedding.

The power division also asked all the entities to keep an adequate number of transformers in their reserves to avoid any interruption in power supply due to technical faults.

It also instructed the gas production entities to increase gas supply to power plants in a bid to keep power supply normal during Ramadan.

All the distribution companies were also instructed to inspect and replace the overloaded transformers and keep adequate stock of transformers in the stock.

It also asked all the consumers to replace the CFL bulbs with LED bulbs to prevent wastage of electricity and not to use extra lights in supermarkets, petrol pumps and CNG gas stations and to limit the use of AC in shopping malls, departmental stores and other commercial establishments during Iftar and tarabi prayer.

The power division has also instructed all the power distribution companies to remain alert so that no technical fault or interruption in power supply could take place.
