BD-Canada business forum starts in Canada

The 'Bangladesh-Canada Business Forum-2019' kicks off in Toronto today (Tuesday) with an aim to further enhancing the bilateral trade between the two countries.Presently Bangladesh has $ 1800 million trade with Canada of which export from Bangladesh is $ 1339.80 million while import is worth $589.29 million.

Canada is providing duty free facility to all products except Poultry, Dairy, Egg, Arms and ammunitions since 2003 which has contributed significantly in increasing export to the country. The '13th Toronto Global Forum' is also being launched in Toronto from tomorrow (Wednesday). The forum will continue till September 6. Commerce Minister, Tipu Munshi is attending the forum, leading a 32 member delegation from Bangladesh, with the invitation of President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of International Economic Forum of the Americas, Nicolas Rimiland.

The Minister left Dhaka with his delegation Monday. He will deliver speech in the plenary session as a designated discussant. During the forum, Minister will take part in open discussion and exchange views with the investors of potential sectors in Canada. Apart from this, a cooperation agreement will be signed between the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) and Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC).

The ways to enhancing bi-lateral trade between Canada and Bangladesh will be widely discussed in the forum. Bangladesh will face risk of losing the duty free trade facility from Canada for its graduation to the middle income country from LDC, the forum will also discuss the issue of how to face the situation and what to do.
