BCG seizes jelly-filled shrimps

6 thousand 100 kg of illegal jelly-pushed shrimps have been seized in an operation by Coast Guard in Keraniganj Upazila of Dhaka.

Lieutenant Commander Khandaker Munif Taqi, media officer of the Coast Guard Headquarters, gave this information on Thursday afternoon.

Lt Commander Munif said that based on secret information, a special operation was conducted by Bangladesh Coast Guard Station Pagla at approximately 0500 hours on Thursday, January 26, 2023, in the area adjacent to Dhaleshwari Bridge in Keraniganj, Dhaka under the leadership of Station Commander Lt. Shams Sadekin Nirnoy. 

During the operation, 04 passenger buses and 02 trucks bound for Chittagong from Khulna were searched and approximately 6 thousand 100 kg (152.5 tons) of illegal jelly-pushed prawns were seized.

Since the real owner of the shrimp could not be found, it was not possible to arrest anyone. Keraniganj Upazila Sub-Assistant Fisheries Officer Md Ashikur Rahman was present in the said expedition.

He further said that later in the presence of the Upazila fisheries officer, the seized jelly-pushed shrimps were burnt and destroyed.
