Sacksful of currency notes found abandoned in a roadside pond at Shahjahanpur of Bogura, are all discarded, punched and shredded. Those were pieces of discarded notes of Bangladesh Bank. More such discarded notes will be dumped as trash soon, said sources of Bangladesh Bank in Bogura. It is learnt, local women collected some sackfuls of paper from beside Jalshuka Khoura Bridge on Bagbari road at Shahjahanpur for use as cooking fuel.

Later, on opening the sacks, they found old, tattered notes inside and informed the police, who on being informed, recovered several sacks of punched pieces of notes from there. Azim Uddin, Officer-in-charge of Shahjahanpur police station said on Monday that trucks of the municipality had dumped those sackfuls of discarded notes. Later on Tuesday morning, local people after opening the sacks, found the torn notes inside and informed the police. At 11-00 am, police reached the spot and recovered the discarded notes.

Rafiul Abedin, Slum Development Officer of Bogura Municipality said, a letter signed by Joint Manager of Bangladesh Bank, Bogura branch, requested them to dispose of the discarded, shredded, 'unfit to use' notes as trash. Accordingly, 105 sacks of such notes laden in five trucks of the municipality were dumped as trash .

Shahjahan, Joint Manager of Bangladesh Bank said that the pieces of notes dumped, were not possible to mend in any way because they were cut and punched with machines. More such discarded notes will be dumped as garbage through the municipality, he mentioned. Additional Superintendent of Police of Bogura said, following the procedure of BB, those discarded notes were cut to pieces by machine and thrown away as trash.

Meanwhile, another report from Bogura said, from Sunday morning a huge amount of severed pieces of currency notes were seen floating on the water of a pond in Chandai village. Jagannath Chandra Ghose, Executive Director (in charge) of BB, Bogura in this connection said, the BB was holding some 2,000 sacks of discarded notes, but they could not be burnt for fear of environmental pollution.

On Saturday, some sackfuls of those discarded notes were handed over to the municipal authorities to be dumped as trash. A responsible official of Bogura Municipality requesting anonymity said municipality cleaners had dumped those sacks in the pond.
